Paul Townes

Paul Townes, 82, of Murphysboro, died at 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Mr. Townes was born January 29, 1918 in Carbondale, the son of Herbert L. and Lola (Stafford) Townes. He married Vesta Drake and she preceded him in death in 1969.
He was a retired purchasing agent at Southern Illinois University and of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Townes was a U.S. Army veteran of  World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 7190 in Murphysboro and American Legion Post 127 of Murphysboro.
Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Richards and husband Ron of Longmont, Co.; a son, Steve Townes and wife Brenda of Du Quoin; a granddaughter, April Ricahrds and a grandson, Dillon Richards. 
Military graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 200 at Oakland  Cemetery in Carbondale. Rites were conduced by the American Legion and VFW posts in Murphysboro, the VFW 2605 of Carbondale, the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69 and the U.S. Army. Visistation was from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro.
